Darren Hayes with NEW
ALBUM
Article from Portuguese
Magazine TV7Dias
“I
wanted to take risks”
The
Tension and The Spark is the second
solo
album of the ex Savage Garden
front man, that
is back
following a way away from pop music…
It was
in 1995 when he wrote one of the
biggest
successes of
his career. This was Savage Garden’s
“era”
and Truly Madly Deeply got to the first
place
at the Billboard Hot
100.
“I
feel very proud of that song. If it wasn’t for it
I
don’t think I would be here giving
this interview right
now” he
confessed to TV7Dias.
Not
long after “Affirmation” was born, the
second
album of the band that sold over
20 million copies.
In
2002, Darren surprised the world with a new
solo
album, Spin. Now, he is back with
The Tension and
The Spark and
steps away from traditional pop music.
“This
is a progressive album with some
interesting
details. I
think it’s brave and honest.” He says. “I
wanted to produce something new and take risks.
I
wanted something in which I could
believe as an
artist.” Darren tells. “In Savage Garden I would
talk
about my frustrations towards pop.
I think it became
generic and not
honest.”
And
when is Darren coming for a concert in
Portugal?
“I
loved the concert we did in ‘Parque das
Nações’
with Savage Garden, but this
doesn’t only depends on
me.” He
says.
The
Tension and The Spark
With a
title like this we had to find out which
were
the ‘tensions’ and the ‘sparks’ in
Darren’s life.
“I think my
journeys and my progress as a human
being. The relationships, the emotions… This
album
talks about my perspective on life
at this moment,
and I think it
will find a lot of people who can relate
with
it in its entirety.” Darren reveals.
