DARREN UNLUCKY
IN LOVE
Former Savage Garden singer Darren
Hayes
can’t find a
girlfriend. Darren
who’s been single
for two years,
says it’s easy to meet women –
it’s taking
things to the next stage that’s the
hard
part. “If they don’t know who you are
there’s this weird ‘so what do you do
’
conversation,” he said
recently.
“Sometimes
I’m vague and say something like
‘oh I do
lots of things’. Then if you get
into a romantic
situation,
after the third date you pretty
much
have to show them your website and
CDs
because you don’t want them to
work it out
on their own. That changes the
dynamic forever.”
Darren’s new album The Tension and the
Spark
delves into his “dark side”. Out
of respect for
my family, I
have never spoken about my
childhood. I never admitted I grew up
with
alcoholism and domestic violence
until I
was 24 and I
told my wife,” Hayes said. “But
that was one of
the driving forces behind me
becoming a
performer and seeking the kind
of love and
approval I felt I didn’t receive
growing up.” Darren admits he’s still
battling
his demons, but making his recent
album was
cathartic.
Darren
is in Australia to promote his new
album, but he won’t be coming to
Adelaide.
